Apply to Perform at CDBF 2008

It's that time of the year, and the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival 2008 is now calling for performance "auditions" for this year's Performing Arts stage.

If you are interested, please submit an online application and send a short video recording* of your performance on VHS video, DVD (or music CD, if applicable) for review by our performance selection committee. (Note: if your groups performed previously, you are "still" required to send an audition recording)

Where: Sloan's Lake Park, 25th & Sheridan

When: Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27, 2008

Details:

  • Performances will be a minimum of 20 minutes and a maximum of 25 minutes in length
  • Performers will be paid a $250 honorarium on the day of the event
  • Stage emcees will include Denver's local Asian Media
  • Performers will be featured in the Festival program book and on the festival web site
Festival Highlights:
  • Host of the 2008 American Dragon Boat Association's International Invitational & USA Central Region Championship Races.
  • Two full days of racing -- 64 adult race teams and 8 youth teams (13-17 years old)
  • Competitive and Novice adult race divisions. Competitive divisions include Men's, Women's, and Mixed.
  • Youth Unity area introducing APA youth performing arts like hip hop, contemporary martial arts and spoken word
  • Asian Village -- a close-up look at three of the area's vibrant Asian Pacific Islander communities, with exhibits, people on hand from the community to personally introduce visitors to their culture and intimate cultural demonstrations
  • The Marketplace will include over 80 food and gift vendors
The Performing Arts committee' goal is to:
  • Showcase authentic traditional and contemporary forms of Asian Pacific American performing arts.
  • Represent Colorado's diverse Asian Pacific American communities
  • Make each year new and exciting to audiences of all backgrounds
  • Showcase at least one performance that bridges diverse cultures through performing arts

Note: Your performing group will not be considered without an audition recording.  The audition recording  needs to be mailed in before the deadline.  Your audition recording will not be returned unless specifically requested with a returned stamped envelope.
