Community Pickup Team Information

The Colorado Dragon Boat Festival again is proud to offer those not affiliated with a sponsoring organization the opportunity to participate in the races by becoming members of a Community Pickup Team.

This team will race in the Novice Division (ND) for adults at Sloan’s Lake, July 26 and 27, 2008.

To qualify:

What do you get for your money?

This will be one adult team, comprised of the first 12 men and 12 women (18 paddlers, a drummer, a “flag catcher” at the prow, and four alternates) to register and pay the entry fee.

When the team roster is filled, an interim captain will be chosen and will receive all the team contact info, with a CC to the rest of the team. At that point, it will be YOUR team. It will be the interim captain’s responsibility to convene the team to choose their own captain and co-captain. Names of the team leaders must be relayed to the Dragon Boat Race Coordinator ASAP. From then on, it is the captain’s responsibility to convey any subsequent info from the Race Coordinator to the team.

Training

As was done in 2007, training and water practice will be conducted during the summer at Standley Lake, Westminster, by members of the Colorado Dragon Boat Race Association (CDBRA). Practices were limited to Monday–Thursday last year. This year, we hope to expand practice sessions into the weekends. All team members who have no previous race experience MUST attend and participate in the team water practice. Participation may be waived if a racer attests to having raced in a specified year and has received the 2008 On-Shore training.
